He is the 2025 JCI Sandton Director: Business and Partnerships and eloquent speaker on issues of growing Africa. Get to know the light side of this amazing professional and his 2025 vision for the organisation:
Sibusiso Nkosi: If you could have dinner with one leader in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Valentino Chigwedere: I would love to meet Dr Sultan Al Jaber. He is the CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). His leadership in the energy industry, especially to position Abu Dhabi and the UAE to be energy secure, is truly remarkable. I’d like to discuss his grounding tenets and how I could learn to also be a forward thinking leader in ensuring energy security in Africa and SADC.
Sibusiso Nkosi: If you were a “leadership superhero”, what powers would you have and why?
Valentino Chigwedere: The ability to predict the future, so that I can hypothetically see different scenarios if I were to take decisions on certain things.
Sibusiso Nkosi: Which board member would you like to trade places with, and why (light hearted)?
Valentino Chigwedere: Executive Vice President, Precious Maputle. I think the job seems relaxed. Just follow Local President’s plan of action and attend meetings.
Sibusiso Nkosi: Out of the entire board, who is the best dresser and why?
Valentino Chigwedere: Secretary General, Thelma Madzikanda. She really dresses to kill. Women in the boardroom that command the space!
Sibusiso Nkosi: If you could live in another place for a year outside South Africa, where would it be and why?
Valentino Chigwedere: Abu Dhabi, UAE. It is growing as the center for wealth and capital globally. Our growth plans are to open an office there in the near future as well.
Sibusiso Nkosi: Lastly, what are you looking to achieve in your tenure as a 2025 JCI Sandton Board member?
Valentino Chigwedere: To increase partnerships and the business development aspect of the organization to ensure sustainability.
