(S1:E1) Board Talk: Noel Moyo, JCI Sandton Local President | Pixar | Food in Japan | Leadership

In the first Episode of Board Talk Season 1, powered by JCI Sandton, we are getting to know Noel Moyo. He is the 2025 JCI Sandton Local President and a visionary leader. Get to know the light side of this amazing professional and his 2025 vision for the organisation:

Sibusiso Nkosi: If you could have dinner with one leader in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Noel Moyo: Edwin Catmull – Co-founder of Pixar and former president of Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Catmull played a pivotal role in revolutionising the animation industry by merging technology and storytelling, proving that creativity and structured leadership coexist. His ability to cultivate a culture of openness, experimentation, and psychological safety at Pixar and Disney Animation—where even the most successful ideas were continuously refined—has always inspired me.

What I admire most about Catmull is his leadership philosophy, which emphasises fostering a culture of trust, collaboration, and creativity. In his book Creativity, Inc., he shares invaluable insights on building and sustaining a creative environment, which resonates deeply with me.

Sibusiso Nkosi: If you were a “leadership superhero”, what powers would you have and why?

Noel Moyo: It would be the ability to see the future—aka Visionary Foresight—the ability to see the future of leadership, business, and innovation before it happens. This would allow me to anticipate challenges, seize emerging opportunities, and guide teams with clarity and confidence toward sustainable success.

Sibusiso Nkosi: Which board member would you like to trade places with, and why (light-hearted)?

Noel Moyo: Tshegofatso Mapaya (VP Projects) – without a doubt! She’s the life of the party and has an incredible ability to bring energy and excitement to any room.

Sibusiso Nkosi: Out of the entire board, who is the best dresser and why?

Noel Moyo: Precious Maputle’s (Executive VP) impeccable sense of style truly sets her apart. She consistently presents herself with a polished and refined look, blending fashion with professionalism.

Sibusiso Nkosi: If you could live in another place for a year outside South Africa, where would it be and why?

Noel Moyo: I would live in Japan. First, the people are the kindest in the world. Second, Japan is a perfect blend of innovation, tradition, and discipline, making it an incredible place to experience personal and professional growth. As a lover of art, history, and food, Japan’s rich history, breathtaking landscapes, deep respect for culture, and structured way of life are fascinating. They also have incredible food and efficient public transport. Let’s be honest—who wouldn’t love easy access to sushi, bullet trains, and the fast-paced energy of Tokyo?

Sibusiso Nkosi: Lastly, what are you looking to achieve in your tenure as a 2025 JCI Sandton Board member?

Noel Moyo: I aim to lead with intention, empower those around me, and create a culture where members feel valued, engaged, and inspired to make a difference.

By the end of my tenure, I want to leave JCI Sandton stronger, more connected, and positioned for an even more significant impact in the years ahead. Most importantly, I want to drive impact, growth, and sustainability within the organisation.
