(S1:E3) Board Talk: Tshegofatso Mapaya, JCI Sandton VP Projects | Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka| Germany | Tangible Transformation

In the third Episode of Board Talk Season 1, powered by JCI Sandton, we are getting to know Tshegofatso Mapaya. She is the 2025 JCI Sandton Vice President Projects and someone with a very sweet personality. Get to know the light side of this amazing professional and her 2025 vision for the organisation:

Sibusiso Nkosi: If you could have dinner with one leader in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Tshegofatso Mapaya: If I could dine with any leader, it would unquestionably be Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka. Her trailblazing work and fearless advocacy for gender equality inspire me deeply. She has not only paved the way for women in leadership but also serves as a constant reminder that the spaces I aspire to occupy are attainable. Over dinner, I imagine we’d discuss strategies for transformative leadership, and I’d soak in her wisdom like a sponge—each insight shaping my journey as a civil servant.

Sibusiso Nkosi: If you were a “leadership superhero”, what powers would you have and why?

Tshegofatso Mapaya: My superpower would be the ability to seamlessly strategize, assess complex information, and implement actionable plans with precision. Leadership isn’t just about vision—it’s about execution. I approach every project with passion and a clear focus, igniting energy and purpose in every room I step into. This combination makes me an unstoppable force in driving impactful change.

Sibusiso Nkosi: Which board member would you like to trade places with, and why (light hearted)?

Tshegofatso Mapaya: I’d trade places with the Local Treasurer in a heartbeat (Ntandoyenkosi Ndlovu). Managing finances and ensuring sustainability is one of the toughest yet most rewarding roles in any organization. My passion for resource mobilization and crafting innovative strategies to secure funding would thrive in this role. It’s not just about balancing the books, it’s about unlocking the potential for transformative, long-term impact.

Sibusiso Nkosi: Out of the entire board, who is the best dresser and why?

Tshegofatso Mapaya: Valentino Chigwedere (Director: Business and Partnerships), without a doubt! His style is sharp, effortless, and always on point. He’s the epitome of someone who understands that great dressing is an extension of great leadership, commanding respect and admiration without saying a word.

Sibusiso Nkosi: If you could live in another place for a year outside South Africa, where would it be and why?

Tshegofatso Mapaya: Germany. Its blend of rich history, cutting-edge innovation, and a culture of efficiency resonates with me. Living there would be an incredible opportunity to immerse myself in a society that values progress while preserving its heritage.

Sibusiso Nkosi: Lastly, what are you looking to achieve in your tenure as a 2025 JCI Sandton Board member?

Tshegofatso Mapaya: I aim to be a catalyst for projects and initiatives that leave a lasting impact. My vision is to see every plan translate into real, tangible transformation in the lives of those we serve. As a leader, I’m excited to take on challenges, grow through them, and consistently drive purpose-driven change.
