4 Shocking Reasons Why People Don’t Post on LinkedIn (And Counter Arguments)

LinkedIn is a powerful platform for professionals to build their personal brand, establish thought leadership, and connect with others in their industry. However, despite its many benefits, many people are hesitant to post on LinkedIn. Here are 4 shocking reasons why:

1. “My Colleagues Will See My Posts”: The Fear of Peer Judgment

Many people are hesitant to post on LinkedIn because they’re afraid their colleagues will see their posts and judge them. They may worry that their colleagues will think they’re trying to self-promote or that they’re not as knowledgeable as they claim to be.

Counter argument: Your colleagues are irrelevant in a broader scheme of things. Whether they cringe or think you are being “fake”, you are not posting for them. You are posting for the hundreds of CEO’s and Executives that might spot you. That is your target market.

2. “HR Will Think I’m Looking for Another Job”: The Fear of Misinterpretation

Some people are hesitant to post on LinkedIn because they’re afraid their HR department will think they’re looking for another job. They may worry that their posts will be misinterpreted as a sign of dissatisfaction with their current role.

Counter argument: Your LinkedIn post might not be explicit in saying you need a new job, but all of us “including HR” know that you are putting yourself out there. So what? What is HR going to do about it? What labour laws are you breaking? So, carry on. Get that big job.

3. “I’m Not an Expert”: The Imposter Syndrome

Imposter syndrome is a common phenomenon where people doubt their own abilities and feel like they’re pretending to be something they’re not. This can hold people back from posting on LinkedIn, as they may feel like they’re not qualified to share their opinions or expertise.

Counter argument: You don’t have to be an expert to share your thoughts and experiences on LinkedIn. Just share what you know. Remember, LinkedIn is not a TV or Radio interview where you have to be an expert. Potential employers just want to see that you have the necessary knowledge and a growth mindset, even when you share the most simple things.

4. “I Don’t See the Point”: The Lack of Understanding

Some people may not post on LinkedIn because they simply don’t see the point. They may not understand the benefits of using the platform or may not know how to use it effectively.

Counter argument: LinkedIn is a powerful tool for building your professional brand, establishing thought leadership, and connecting with others in your industry. By posting on LinkedIn, you can increase your visibility, build your reputation, and open up new opportunities for yourself and your business.

So, keep posting. Do not worry about people that do not matter. Do not count your likes. It takes only one view to get your next biggest job or business deal.
